Technical Rules:

General Rules:

1.1 All players must be members of Ottawa Deaf Sports Club.

1.2 Any person who spares will be charged $3.00/game.

1.3 The curling fees to be paid in full by December 1st. Any team member not paid in full by December 1st will result in his or her team forfeiting all games until membership is paid. Curlers must pay half of their first payment by the 2nd game of the year.

1.4 Team selections will occur in this manner. Following the final standings of the last season, the first place skip will select last and last place skip/any new skips will select first.

1.5 NO children ALLOWED at any curling clubs.

1.6 The selling of chocolate bars, raffle tickets, etc from outsiders at the curling club will not be allowed without the President's permission.

1.7 Any member of Ottawa Deaf Curling Club residing in Quebec will not be allowed to participate in any Ontario Deaf Curling Championships.

1.8 Any non-member is allowed to participate in the Canadian Deaf Curling Championships if there is no regular curler available.

A non-member must pay a reasonable fee at the discretion of the board to be eligible to participate in Canadian Deaf Curling Championships.

1.9 The early bird discount payment of $10.00 is non-refundable.

1.10 Canadian Curling Association (C.C.A.) Rules will prevail in all decisions, except
Where they are amended in these rules by and for the Ottawa Deaf Curling
Club.

1.11 No exceptions to these rules will be permitted.

League Rules:

2.1 All games will be eight (8) ends unless otherwise specified. The rinks (teams) will be notified fifteen (15) minutes before scheduled finishing time. When notified, the rinks will finish the end in which they are playing and will play one more complete end unless they are finishing the 8th end when notified. In the case, the game will be completed at the conclusion of the 8th end.

2.2 All games must start on time as scheduled. The rule will be enforced. Failure of a rink to comply with this rule will result in the loss of one (1) end and one (1) point for every ten (10) minutes of delay. The team, which has forced to wait, will automatically have the choice of the last rock when the game begins. At the end of a twenty-five (25) minute delay, the game will be forfeited to the team on the ice with a 10-0 score.

2.3 If no lady on the team, the opponent team will get three (3) score 3-0 in the first (1st) end.

2.4 Teams are allowed only one (1) spare at a time per game. The spares can play only two positions, lead and second. If the spare plays Vice-Skip position, the penalty is disqualification.

2.5 Any curler from "Bye" team is not allowed to be a spare.

2.6 The use of more than one (1) spare will result in loss of game by default.

2.7 A non-curler is considered as a spare and is not eligible to receive any award.

2.8 In the event of an accident or death of family, a game can be re-scheduled at a future date. The Ottawa Deaf Curling Club will pay the re-scheduled game.

2.9 To determine who throws last rock in the first (1st) end please checks the curling schedule. The team with the asterisk (*) will be last rock (hammer). Before the game starts, the team with last rock will be the team at the bottom of the scoreboard. There will be no coin toss. This will help speed up play.

2.10 Curlers who throw rock before the hog line and past the back line be fined .25 cents. Exemptions will be for spares and first year regular curlers. The Skips be fined $1.00.

2.11 Proceeds from the 25 cents and $1.00 fines will go to the 26th Canadian Deaf Curling Championships in Ottawa in 2004.

2.12 Cash prize be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.

Playoff Rules:

3.1 The Match Committee MUST be informed of spare curlers and the eligibility of such spares must be confirmed within the interpretation of the above rules before play has commenced. Penalty is disqualification.

3.2 Each team must have a woman on their team for playoff games.

3.3 If a team has no woman for the playoff game, team would be disqualified from the game.

3.4 The spares can play only two positions lead and second. If the spare plays Vice Skip position, the penalty is disqualification.

3.5 Those curlers on teams not making the playoffs, cannot spare for playoff teams.

However, if no lady spare is available to play from the spare list, a lady spare (lead and second) can be selected from teams out of the playoffs but only After the Board has approved the selection. These spares can only sweep and Are not allowed to throw the rocks.

3.6 If teams are tied of the end of regular play an extra end (9th) will be played if time permits. If the score is tied again, two skips will delivery 1 rock. Sweepers will be allowed. The rock closest to the button wins the game.

3.7 All games must start on time as scheduled. The rule will be enforced. 3.8 The playoff games must be played at home club only.

3.9 Cash prize will be awarded to the champion and runner-up teams.

For Executive Board Members Only:

4.1 The Executive Officers shall be elected by the members of the Ottawa Deaf Curling Club.

4.2 Only curlers are permitted to run as an officer.

4.3 The Annual General Meeting will be held in March or April.

4.4 The term of the Executive Officers shall run for two (2) years.

4.5 Two auditors are to be 1 curler and 1 non-curler.

4.6 If a conflict arises, either with a board member, or a regular member, the Officers of the Board will gather the facts and find a solution to the Particular problem.

4.7 Proceeds from BBQ's and carwashes will be divided as follows, 80% to the Ottawa curling teams for participating in future Canadian Deaf Curling Championships and 20% to Ottawa Deaf
Curling Club.

4.8 $25.00 to be paid to each board member for the meal expenses.

4.9 Should any situation occur that is not covered by the rules, the Board of the Ottawa Deaf Curling Club shall make the final decision.
